Core values are a person's fundamental beliefs. These guiding principles dictate behavior, guide decisions, and can help determine course corrections along the path of life. A person's core values create an unwavering guide through which all decisions are made.
Years ago, I invested time praying over and seeking clarity about my personal core values. Out of a time of Bible study, prayer, and writing, I penned a list of four primary values. They are Prayer, Evangelism, Discipleship, Missions.
I've brought those values with me to the churches I have pastored and the organizations I have been privileged to lead. These convictions serve as a guide for all of my actions and they serve as the motivational flame of our church!
How do these values translate to practical activity?
I have developed a strategy consisting of three pathways to accomplishing our mission at Hardy Street. We use the words - Knowing, Growing, & Going to define those pathways!
Every member is challenged to:
KNOW Christ & Make Christ Known.
GROW in Christ in loving community.
GO for Christ to our neighbors, the nations, & the next generation.
GOING
Going for Christ to our neighbors, the nations, & the next generation. (missions)
UNTIL HE COMES…GO
The heart of missions hangs on the power of the gospel. Without the gospel, our interest in their world is robbed of its purpose and perspective. We are called to start by practicing the gospel at home! We are called to point our own kids & grandkids to Christ… Then to
Yet, Scripture is clear about our need to focus not only on our own families, or even our local neighborhood and community, but also to the whole world. We have a great responsibility — and opportunity — to help YOU develop a heart for the nations, starting on your sidewalk and stretching so far as the other side of the world. Taking God’s good news to the nations is a big task, but we are called by an even bigger God!
